Just in time for their upcoming UK tour, Ibibio Sound Machine return with Anyone Like You. Following yesterday’s BBC Radio 6 premiere of title track “Anyone Like You,” the full EP, a collaborative project with electronic music producers Village Cuts is now available in full wherever you stream music.

On Anyone Like You, Ibibio Sound Machine and Village Cuts fuse electronic sounds and organic elements together with a club sensibility. Like a 12-inch dance hall heater of yore, “Anyone Like You” comes in three flavors: the original version, an extended mix with an experimental, pulsating breakdown section, and a club version in which Village Cuts take the song in a darker, heavier direction with pitched vocals and extra percussive elements and synth lines added to the mix. Also featured on the EP is the cosmic funk of “Jagaban,” which takes its name from the Hausa language, widely spoken in Nigeria, which means “leader of warriors.”

Ibibio Sound Machine and Village Cuts have been hanging out in the studio off and on this year, sharing a common love of African-inspired rhythms and electronic textures. “Anyone Like You” is the first track to come from these sessions and reflects both Ibibio’s culture-clash of elements and Village Cuts’ club-ready sonics.

Like Ibibio Sound Machine’s most recent full-length albums — 2024’s Ross Orton-produced Pull the Rope and their 2022 Hot Chip-produced breakout Electricity — collaborating with Village Cuts has added new color and depth to their already timeless sound, with Eno Williams proving once again to be one of our most irresistible singers, her voice a siren call to hit the floor. Fans in the UK can do just that, as Ibibio Sound Machine embark on a run of UK tour dates beginning in October at the Llais Festival in Cardiff, Wales. Tickets for all dates are on sale now!
