On their new collaborative Anyone Like You EP, Ibibio Sound Machine and electronic music producers Village Cuts fuse together electronic sounds and organic elements with a club sensibility. The title track is presented in three different ways; alongside the original version, there is an extended mix with an experimental, pulsating breakdown section as well as a club version in which Village Cuts make it all a bit darker and heavier with pitched vocals and extra percussive elements and synth lines added to the mix. Also featured on the 4-song EP is the cosmic funk of "Jagaban" which takes its name from Hausa, a language widely spoken in Nigeria, and means “leader of warriors.”
Max Grunhard from Ibibio Sound Machine on the collaboration:
ISM and Village Cuts have been hanging out in the studio on and off this year, sharing a common love of African-inspired rhythms and electronic textures. “Anyone Like You” is the first track to come from these sessions and reflects both Ibibio's culture-clash of elements and VC's club-ready sonics.”
