Fresh from a European tour where she did double duty as a solo performer and member of Daniel Romano’s band The Outfit, Carson McHone went back in the studio to capture these reimagined versions of songs from her Merge debut Still Life.

Of the Camera Varda Variations EP, Carson writes:

Almost as soon as we landed on our  flight home from touring Europe, Daniel and I were back in our studio, Camera Varda, to reimagine the final, and most minimal, track on Still Life. “Tried (Camera Varda)” is somehow more eerie than the original, trading in the solo acoustic guitar and single vocal for portamento organ, syncopated drums, and pitch-shifted harmonies. As soon as the rest of the band returned home, they joined us in the studio, along with our engineer, Kenneth Roy Meehan. “End of the World (Camera Varda)” is more akin to how we’ve been playing it live and features The Outfit: Ian Romano on drums, Roddy Carlyle on bass, Julianna Riolino on harmonies and percussion, Daniel Romano on guitar, and myself on guitar and vocals. Both songs were recorded and mixed on an 8-track tape machine and mastered by Kristian Montano. I’m back on the road touring Still Life with The Outfit as my band through September and October. You can grab tickets to see us live, and hear these two reimagined tracks from Still Life wherever you stream music.
