“A slow one” isn’t really Sacred Paws’ MO, but there is, in fact, a slow one on Run Around the Sun (out May 31 in North America on Merge / rest of world on Rock Action). “How Far” was born of a riff guitarist Rachel Aggs had been noodling about with for some time, and a desire to try their hand at writing something a bit different. Nestled in the middle of the album, it’s a slightly twinkly, stripped-back meditation that inspires more of a sway than a pogo. Rachel wrote the bones of it alone at home (“A really nice, calm way to write songs!”) and brought it to a studio session to be built on. “It was sort of the first song we’ve done in a while that was carefully done, in that way.”

In case you missed it, check out the music video for “The Conversation,” a song Pitchfork described as “a sunny, carefree jaunt, allowing Rachel Aggs’ guitar to bounce in loose curls around Eilidh Rodgers’ bubbly drums.” Run Around the Sun is available on CD and limited-edition translucent green Peak Vinyl in the Merge store, or wherever records are sold.
