Rebecca Gates of The Spinanes announces performance at NADA Miami, Manos reissue out Friday
Manos, the seminal full-length debut from legendary Pacific Northwest duo The Spinanes was released 25 years ago this year, and we are celebrating that milestone by reissuing it with redesigned artwork and vinyl-edition extras on Friday. Rebecca Gates of The Spinanes recently spoke with Vogue Magazine about the band's formation and more. Read it now.
In other exciting news, Rebecca Gates will perform a set of music tomorrow, December 6, at 6 p.m. at the annual New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) contemporary art fair during Art Basel Miami Beach. More info is available here.
Of the duo’s sound, Gates writes:
With the two of us, it was more a question of how to translate the songs from a live context (we’d been playing them for awhile) to a recorded context that worked. The overriding thing I remember in terms of rules was that I wanted the album to have the least effects possible, particularly no reverb. It wasn’t that I didn’t like effects, but that reverb seemed lazy. I also wanted vocals as straightforward as possible. There were actually times when I didn’t take a good breath before singing because I didn’t want to hear a girly flirtiness that was in vogue at the time.
