Preview the Mountain Goats' new album Goths on NPR Music; European shows announced
This week, you can test drive the Mountain Goats’ new album Goths before it hits stores worldwide on Friday! NPR First Listen premieres the group’s 16th full-length today, saying, “Darnielle once again takes a conceptual detour. As its title suggests, it’s about growing up goth—about establishing a place for yourself among other outcasts—but it also finds the band shedding guitars and adding a fourth permanent member in multi-instrumentalist Matt Douglas… For John Darnielle, goth isn’t a sound or a style so much as a state of mind: a source of comfort and connection for the young and lost, sure, but it needn’t leave your side as you age, either.”
On release day, tune in to the Mountain Goats’ page on Facebook at 2pm ET for a live video performance from the band. In case you missed it, John Darnielle hosted another live event back in February, performing and discussing “Andrew Eldritch Is Moving Back to Leeds” from Tiny Telephone Studios in San Francisco.
The Mountain Goats have also announced their first European shows in years, beginning October 5 in Leeds (natch). The band’s North American tour begins next week in Atlanta. Tickets are on sale now for all shows—and moving fast—so grab yours today!
Check out NPR’s interview The Mountain Goats On Growing Up, And Growing Older, In Goth, and pre-order Goths now with special bundle options in the Merge store, or via your favorite digital outlet. The limited-edition deluxe vinyl is still available for pre-order at select stores in the US and the UK but will also be available at independent record stores beginning Friday and at the merch table on tour.
