“The New World Wave” is Lambchop’s third single from their forthcoming record Punching the Clown, due August 21 via Merge (City Slang rest of world). It’s a family saga set during the Great Depression; Jonathan Franzen would turn the setting into a 1,000-page novel; Lambchop’s Kurt Wagner sums up the story in five minutes, with the choir singing along in the style of the Beach Boys or The 5th Dimension.

“The New World Wave” follows the Pitchfork Selected previous singles “Weakened” and “Stella.” Night one of Lambchop’s three-date residency at Crooner’s Supper Club saw Wagner and company performing songs from Punching the Clown to a sold out crowd.
