Ibibio Sound Machine are back to leave their mark on your summer playlists, sharing the first track from The Black Notes EP ahead of their remaining summer festival slots. The digital release is out in full on September 4 and is available for pre-order from the Merge store or Ibibio Sound Machine’s Bandcamp page.

A vibrant and sunny blend of electronica, dance music, and pop, “Black Notes” begins with a surging choir, pulsating synths, and infectious beats, above which singer Eno Williams delivers one of her most rousing performances to date.

Ibibio Sound Machine on The Black Notes EP:

Moments of joy and feeling grateful for the sun on your face. “Black Notes” and “Honey Bee” are two sides of a coin—soulful dance and an electronic take on highlife for 2024. Captain Planet’s funky Afro house remix take on “Pull the Rope” and Vanguard’s acid-tinged version of “Got to Be Who U Are” round out the selection.

The Black Notes EP comes on the heels of 2024’s acclaimed Pull the Rope and follows that album in revealing even more facets of Ibibio Sound Machine’s perpetual groove. The group returns to the United States in between European and UK tours, kicking things off in Washington, DC, on September 21 and making stops in Brooklyn, Chicago, West Hollywood, and more—tickets for all dates are on sale now!
