Archers of Loaf cover The Rolling Stones’ “Street Fighting Man” for Record Store Day
New Loaf. New Loaf. New Loaf. And it’s a cover! Anyone familiar with Archers of Loaf's uncategorizable rock and roll will rightly assume that their influences swing wildly, and one glance into the artists they’ve covered—Treepeople, Red Sovine via Tom Waits, John Coltrane—will confirm those suspicions. Add The Rolling Stones to that list, for today the beloved North Carolina quartet have released their rendition of the pissed-off call-to-arms “Street Fighting Man” for the masses. Resuming the North Carolina Invasion in 5-4-3-2-1…
“Street Fighting Man” is the flipside to Archers of Loaf’s Record Store Day single, newly rescheduled for June 20 August 29. A-side “Raleigh Days” was released online in February, marking the first new music from the band in over twenty years. Rolling Stone declared it “a shout-along guitar banger… There’s a whiff of nostalgia, but mostly, it’s invigorating—especially with a tour scheduled and, one hopes, more new music on the way.”
