Since 2011, Aquarium Drunkard’s Lagniappe Sessions have been a place for artists to share unique covers of their favorites. Earlier this year, shortly after the release of Goes West, William Tyler shared his second Lagniappe Session which featured covers of contemporaries like Yo La Tengo, classics like Fleetwood Mac, and deep classics like Dvořák and Handel. Today, the tracks from that session arrive on all digital services. Add ’em to your favorite playlist now:

Critical praise for William Tyler Goes West:

“The guitarist has traded the electric tones of his last record for an altogether more bucolic, acoustic affair, backed by a full band including Meg Duffy of Hand Habits and warm, sun-dappled synthesizers. His proclamation that he makes ‘rural new age’ feels more apt than ever before.” —Noisey

“Goes West, an album that exists in the spaces between genres and styles, finds Mr. Tyler taking harmonic and melodic development to a new level.” —Wall Street Journal

“When Tyler plays guitar, there’s a feeling of hope and forward motion, largely tied to his wildly expressive right hand, which he uses to pluck up bundles of strings like a gardener pulling weeds.” —Pitchfork

“finely executed guitar instrumentals that unfurl like wordless short stories” —New Yorker

“Tyler’s songs harmonize with deceptively unassuming, emotional playing that’s as reflective, meditative and personal as some of the finest singers.” —American Songwriter

Following his tour of China, Tyler returned home to Los Angeles for a few days before embarking for Europe, where he is wrapping up a UK tour. Immediately after that, he will hit the road for a run of shows with Kevin Morby and appearances at Yo La Tengo’s Camping Weekend in California and Trans-Pecos Festival in West Texas.
