Today, Superchunk share “Stuck in a Dream,” the final pre-release single drawn from their forthcoming album Songs in the Key of Yikes. Listen to the track wherever you stream music, and reserve your copy of the album on CD, LP, or limited orange & black swirl Peak Vinyl from the Merge store ahead of its August 22 release!

“Stuck in a Dream” is a prime example of Superchunk at the peak of their buoyant powers and a full-sprint crowd pleaser ready made for pogoing in the pit.

Mac McCaughan on “Stuck in a Dream”:

Based on an actual dream that wouldn’t end, it’s a late-in-the-sequence upbeat number put there to reward everyone who’s listened that far. Voted song most likely to become ‘fastest and most requested song on the record we never play live’ à la ‘Her Royal Fisticuffs’ and ‘Slow Drip,’ but I think we will learn it for real. Great backing vocals by Laura King.

Superchunk announced Songs in the Key of Yikes last month with its opening track and lead single “Is It Making You Feel Something” before quickly following up with the resilient “No Hope.” Between them, the singles have received a plethora of praise from publications including The New York Times, Pitchfork, Consequence, Paste, Stereogum, Kerrang!, Uncut, The Needle Drop, The A.V. Club, The Line of Best Fit, SPIN, and NPR, which called the former “quintessential Superchunk” and said, “They sound as vital and urgent and purposeful and completely inspired as they ever have.”

Early praise for Songs in the Key of Yikes:

“Old habits die hard. ‘No Hope’ applies Superchunk’s lifelong commitment to punk and indie-rock to the present moment: ‘Here we are singing “no hope, hope, no hope, no hope,”’ declares Mac McCaughan, Superchunk’s founder and leader since 1989. Punk’s response to oppression has always been defiant noise, loud major chords and singalong choruses flung at institutional foes. Will it be enough?” —New York Times

“These big, generous songs still land an emotional punch.” —MOJO, 4/5

“They sound as vital and urgent and purposeful and completely inspired as they ever have.” —NPR Music
