On September 10 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT, Reigning Sound will debut their first online concert! “Reigning Sound at Harbor Town” was shot at the Harbor Town Amphitheater in Memphis, TN, in June with Greg Cartwright and the same hometown lineup that brought us the band’s earliest records as well as their latest, A Little More Time with Reigning Sound. Tickets are on sale now for just $7.98 (including service fee) with a two-week rebroadcast. In addition, the band has just added a souvenir scarf and songbook to their virtual merch table! Both are available for pre-order via Noonchorus and the Merge store.
The old saying “you can’t go home again” is most often true. Life moves on and nothing stays the same, but that’s certainly not the case for songwriter Greg Cartwright, who returned to his home city of Memphis to record A Little More Time with Reigning Sound.
It’s been over 15 years since Cartwright uprooted to Asheville, NC, but this new Memphis-made record shows the songwriter in top form and wholly inspired by his birthplace. And it’s not only the terrain that’s familiar: For the new LP, Cartwright also reunited with Reigning Sound’s original “Memphis lineup” of Jeremy Scott (bass), Greg Roberson (drums), and Alex Greene (keyboards), all of whom played on the band’s earliest recordings. The new songs explore fresh lyrical and musical territories but at times also tastefully echo back to Reigning Sound’s Break Up, Break Down and Time Bomb High School. That’s not by chance—it’s just what happens when these musicians get in the same room. Their sonic chemistry hasn’t faded a bit.
Pick up A Little More Time with Reigning Sound and more from the band’s catalog on vinyl and CD in the Merge store. Reigning Sound headline Memphis’ Gonerfest 18 in September and return to the road next March! A full list of announced dates below.
Critical praise for A Little More Time with Reigning Sound:
“What shines through A Little More Time is the depth of the songwriting. Cartwright’s newfound comfort with vulnerability elevates album closer ‘On and On’ into a country-soul symphony of love and loss. Like all Cartwright’s songs, it is deceptively simple on the surface, with a river of emotion underneath.” —Memphis Flyer
“It’s one of the finest true-blue rock records to see the light of day in 2021” —Nashville Scene
“a slightly retro, soulful, garage rocking set with country influences” —American Songwriter
“Another winner from Cartwright and the Memphis lineup of Reigning Sound as A Little More Time with Reigning Sound continues the outfit’s success story of delivering modern-day tweaks on retro rock and roll.” —Glide Magazine
