Not only are we getting a new album from Reigning Sound, we’re also getting a tour! The band, gearing up to release A Little More Time with Reigning Sound this Friday, May 21, has announced 2022 performances on both coasts; a full list of dates can be found below, and tickets go on sale Friday at 11am ET.

Reigning Sound’s Greg Cartwright recently told Aquarium Drunkard that his band’s original lineup had been last on the road in early 2020, performing together for the first time in years to promote the reissue of Home for Orphans. Cartwright described playing with the “Memphis lineup” as “a great dynamic that holds a special place in my heart” and also revealed how the global pandemic informed A Little More Time with Reigning Sound:

Once I got the idea to try to do some recording, I looked into maybe going to New York and working with the guys from the Jay Vons who have been on the last couple of Reigning Sound records, but New York was kind of a hot spot at that time, so that wasn’t going to happen. I had already kind of rekindled the dynamic with the Memphis crew and it seemed like that made a lot of sense.

The old saying “you can’t go home again” is most often true. Life moves on and nothing stays the same, but that’s certainly not the case for songwriter Greg Cartwright, who returned to his home city of Memphis to record A Little More Time with Reigning Sound. 

It’s been over 15 years since Cartwright uprooted to Asheville, but this new Memphis-made record shows the songwriter in top form and wholly inspired by his birthplace. And it’s not only the terrain that’s familiar: For the new LP, Cartwright also reunited with Reigning Sound’s original Memphis lineup of Jeremy Scott (bass), Greg Roberson (drums), and Alex Greene (keyboards), all of whom played on the band’s earliest recordings. The new songs explore fresh lyrical and musical territories but at times also tastefully echo back to Reigning Sound’s Break Up, Break Down and Time Bomb High School. That’s not by chance—it’s just what happens when these musicians get in the same room. Their sonic chemistry hasn’t faded a bit.
