New releases from TORRES, Ibibio Sound Machine, and The Clientele for Friday’s Bandcamp fundraiser
On Friday, Merge will once again join Bandcamp and hundreds of other independent record labels in waiving our revenue share across the entire Merge digital catalog on Bandcamp. The initiative has become a bright spot in these times and a tradition we have grown to look forward to as a label, and as music fans. After all, Merge would be nowhere without our wonderful artists, and we want to make sure they are extra-supported when there is an inability to tour or play live.
To celebrate the occasion, several Merge recording artists have readied some brand-new and new-to-digital releases on Bandcamp, and we thought it’d be great for you to have them all in one place for easy reference. Ready? Let’s go:
The Clientele – It’s Art Dad
A compilation of early recordings (1991–1996), originally self-released on CD in 2005. From Pitchfork’s review: "Even at this early stage the Clientele could write tightly constructed but wistful melodies, and with whatever crude 4-track set-up they had going they knew how to circle every instrument, voices included, with a warm aura of echoing loveliness."
Ibibio Sound Machine – Live at EartH
Recorded live at Evolutionary Arts Hackney on October 4, 2019. From the band: “This was the biggest show on our recent UK tour and also our biggest London headline show to date. It’s always really special playing to your hometown crowd, and this gig was no exception. It was the culmination of our 2019 touring following the release of our third album Doko Mien. Looking back, it all seems like a world away, even though it was only about 9 months ago. Hopefully days like this will return soon!”
TORRES – Live in Berlin
Recorded live at Kantine am Berghain in Berlin on March 11, 2020. From Mackenzie Scott of TORRES: “This is a recording of the last show I played with my band before the world slowed down. I hope that it brings joy and a little solace where people need it most. Lots of love and thanks to my bandmates for taking the ride with me and to every fan who’s made live music possible.”
We hope you’ll join us in supporting the music makers this Friday and beyond. Let us know on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram which releases you have on your Bandcamp shopping lists so we can add them to ours! Thank you, and #keeplistening
