Based in Dublin, Belfast, and London, Irish intersectional feminist firebrands M(h)aol—Constance Keane (she/her), Jamie Hyland (she/her), and Sean Nolan (he/him)—have built a reputation for thrilling live performances, fostering an atmosphere that encourages community and catharsis regardless of where they play. After their captivating set at SXSW, the band signed with Merge and released the North American reissue of Attachment Styles in November 2023. Following the February release of their single “Pursuit,” they are thrilled to unveil their latest track and video “Snare,” a noisy and driving anthem that boldly defies gender expectations with sharp wit.
“Snare” and its accompanying video, which was directed by the band, debuted today at Post-Trash and made its radio debut this weekend on KEXP. The song is available now on all streaming platforms.
“‘Snare’ is about countless conversations I’ve had since my first drum lesson on my ninth birthday about how bizarre it is that I play that instrument, or how I should be doing it differently,” recalls lead vocalist and drummer Constance Keane. “The idea of society gendering an inanimate object like a drum kit, when it’s something that brings me so much joy and release, has always frustrated me hugely, and I thought it was time to sing about it.”
M(h)aol is also excited to announce U.S. tour dates in New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle, and they will perform at next year’s SXSW Music Festival. Upcoming shows are listed below and tickets are on sale now.
