Hiss Golden Messenger premieres music video for new song “Glory Strums (Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner)”
Hiss Golden Messenger has just released the new track “Glory Strums (Loneliness of the Long-Distance Runner)” from the highly anticipated album Quietly Blowing It, out on June 25. The video for the song, directed by Vikesh Kapoor, premiered today at Consequence as part of their insightful “Origins” series.
Hiss Golden Messenger bandleader, songwriter, and lead vocalist M.C. Taylor says of the new song: “‘Glory Strums’ was written in the chaotic green spring of 2020 as a hymn to finding the places and spaces that make us human.”
Director Vikesh Kapoor says: “For my directorial debut, Hiss Golden Messenger has asked me to contribute to a song which explores the pathos of being an artist—a struggle duly shared here even amongst the most disparate of characters: a boxer, a magician, a gardener, and a dreamer. In a world now assembling itself back together, it is we who take on the foolish, yet sincere, task of trying to make sense of it all. Each of us, in our own way, is a seeker in search of some kind of magic."
Hiss Golden Messenger has announced a long-awaited tour in support of Quietly Blowing It that begins on November 30 in Hummelstown, PA, before heading to Webster Hall in New York City on December 2. The run of 30+ dates will take the Durham, NC–based group coast to coast with stops that include Cambridge, MA; Philadelphia; Washington, DC; Charleston, SC; Atlanta; New Orleans; Austin; San Francisco; Portland, OR; Seattle; Denver; Minneapolis; and Chicago before winding things up in Nashville on March 12. See the full list of dates below.
Quietly Blowing It was written, arranged, and produced by Taylor and is the follow-up to 2019’s critically acclaimed release Terms of Surrender, which received a 2021 GRAMMY Award nomination for Best Americana Album. Special guests and contributors include Griffin and Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, Tony Award–winning artist Anaïs Mitchell, Zach Williams of The Lone Bellow, Nashville guitar great Buddy Miller, and producer/musician Josh Kaufman of Bonny Light Horseman.
Pre-order Quietly Blowing It now on CD and LP in the Merge store, as well as metallic blue Peak Vinyl from participating independent record stores. In addition, Magnolia has an exclusive blue and red speckle edition of the LP.
