Damian Abraham had this to say of how “Show Friends” came together:

This is a song about the complex relationships people can wind up having with music and the music business. It’s a very conditionally loving business, with all sorts of metrics and benchmarks you need to hit to deserve love. The lyrics are me reflecting back on one of the low times in the band and realizing that I’m not really mentally cut out for this vocation. What happens when the thing you have based your life around starts eating you alive? I wanted it to have the feel of a mid-tour fever dream, replete with: anxiety, exhaustion, temporal dysplasia, and the flood of past wrongs and wrongings. I had written the lyrics during the One Day session but couldn’t get it to come together like it sounded in my head. Jonah and I dusted it off and hacked away at it in my basement until it felt right.

All three songs on the “Show Friends” 7-inch came out of the One Day sessions, the ideological and structural backbone of which—to see what Fucked Up could record in 24 hours—produced one of the band’s most energizing, musically intricate albums of their career. The songs here are as varied and thrilling as their counterparts on One Day, from the delirious and speedy punk of “Show Friends” to the signature guitar tapestries and psychedelic grooves of “Spot the Difference” and “What the Sun Saw.”

The “Show Friends” b/w “Spot the Difference” and “What the Sun Saw” 7-inch is available for pre-order in limited editions of black (528 copies) or sea blue (524 copies) vinyl from FU Records. Along with the 7-inch, Fucked Up are finishing the year with a fall tour of the United States, UK, and Europe, featuring a run of October dates with The Damned and a Pitchfork Music Festival appearance with OFF!
