Fruit Bats kicked off their 2024 tour this week, and with the limited-edition tour-exclusive cassette now out in the wild, Eric D. Johnson and company are thrilled to share that Starry-eyed, in Stereo: Selected Live Recordings 2022–2023 is now available to stream wherever you listen to music. Today, head over to Bandcamp at 3pm ET/noon PT for a free release-day listening party event!

From Eric:

This is the third Fruit Bats live album and the first one on glorious CASSETTE TAPE! Weird, right? Finally! I love tapes. I’m a child of the ’80s, what can I say? Plus I always loved Dead bootlegs back in the ’90s times, too. The feel of a sweet little cassette in the hand just floats my boat… Nathan Vanderpool, our longtime front-of-house guy/spiritual advisor and all around lovely human, produced this thing. It’s a nice little time capsule of a whole bunch of different shows and vibes in the years 2022 and 2023. We kinda treated it Europe ’72 style and just mixed and matched from all the different spots that felt right. Fire up yer tape decks and get ready. Hope you love.

The 20 songs on Starry-eyed, in Stereo are lightning in a bottle, recorded across eight shows over the course of a relentless touring schedule that began with the release of the 2022 compilation Sometimes a Cloud Is Just a Cloud and continued in support of 2023’s A River Running to Your Heart. The collection casts a wide net across fractured time and space, pulling in new songs, fan favorites, and deep cuts to thrilling effect. It captures the vibe from room to room while feeling like a live set in its own right, unified by a Fruit Bats outfit at the peak of their powers.

There is no slowing down Eric D. Johnson, who will be on the road for much of the year with Fruit Bats and Bonny Light Horseman. Tickets for Fruit Bats’ remaining slate are on sale but selling fast—grab yours today and stay tuned, as there are more surprises from Fruit Bats to come!
