Head to Paste this morning for the premiere of “Ocean,” the latest preview off Fruit Bats’ forthcoming full-length and Merge debut, Gold Past Life. The project’s maestro Eric D. Johnson says, “This is a song about late bloomers, late discoveries, adult baptism, coming-of-age when you’re way past the right time to do that. About growing, I guess. And how a good love can help you do all of that. In short, this is a lovey-dovey song I hope you enjoy.”

Fruit Bats performs this Saturday at Huichica, a festival Johnson co-presents, followed by performances throughout the summer including MRG30 in North Carolina. New dates (in bold) have been added to his itinerary, too, and tickets for those shows go on sale Friday at 10am local time.

Gold Past Life arrives June 21; check out the previously released singles “Gold Past Life” and “The Bottom of It.” Pre-order the album today on CD, LP, and opaque aqua Peak Vinyl, the latter of which includes a bonus 7-inch containing non-album tracks “Shane” and the previously released “Getting in a Van Again” (available physically only here).
