Following a brief hibernation, Friendship is taking to the road once more in support of their stunning 2025 album Caveman Wakes Up. The Philly-based quartet of Dan Wriggins, Michael Cormier O’Leary, Jon Samuels, and Peter Gill will headline a run of dates across the American south and midwest, beginning January 20 in Atlanta, Georgia. They will be supported by Little Mazarn and Natalie Jane Hill. Tickets for all dates, including their previously announced Spring 2026 tour of the UK and EU, are on sale now.
Caveman Wakes Up is one of 2025’s best reviewed albums, a breakthrough for a band whose influence on the emergent alt-country scene has made them something of a reverse supergroup, each member recording and touring prolifically with their own projects (O’Leary with Hour, Gill with 2nd Grade) or others (Samuels with MJ Lenderman and the Wind). When all four of them are together, as they will be on their January tour, the effect is otherworldly — four incredible players locked in on a dreamy, doomed groove, following the battle standard of Wriggins’ ragged howl into the fray of another day of living. An event not to be missed.
What critics are saying about Caveman Wakes Up:
"Caveman Wakes Up is a spit-shined culmination of the band’s collective powers, a ramshackle triumph that transforms gritted-teeth non sequiturs into unlikely anthems for the downwardly mobile." —Pitchfork
“Caveman Wakes Up truly is a triumph. Friendship’s fourth album finds the Philadelphia band ascending to greatness, arriving at the place they’ve spent the past decade going. It’s one of the most assured indie rock albums in recent memory, the sound of a brilliant writer coming into his own and a band honing in on the ideal aesthetic complement for his songs, imbuing his quiet indignities with a plaintive grace.” —Stereogum
“Dan Wriggins’ lyrics … mix the poetic and the prosaic in a way that feels truly magical." —MOJO
“It’s the sound of calloused hands and late shifts, channeling Neil Young’s rough-hewn soul with the weary pride of a rust-belt diner at dawn.”—New Commute
“On Caveman Wakes Up, Wriggins plugs into the same wryly literate indie-country lane that David Berman pioneered in the ’90s, with stories of downbeat struggle rendered with wit and insight, courtesy of a barstool poet’s knowing eye.” —UPROXX
“Friendship’s got some of the best songs in the game. But there’s always room for improvement.” —Jake “MJ” Lenderman
