Worst thing to happen to me and all my fellow Brits is Brexit. I can’t believe it’s going ahead. Theresa May has tunnel vision and is refusing to let the people vote again even though there is a strong argument for her to give us that vote. It’s casing all sorts of harm on so many levels. I believe in progress and this is a step back in my opinion.
I’m not 100% sold on Scottish independence but if Brexit goes ahead and there is another referendum I might just have to vote to leave the Uk and vote for an independent Scotland that will hopefully remain in the EU. It’s upsetting and complicated.
Best thing to have happened to me is becoming Twitter pals with pop legend Belinda Carlisle. Many of my teenage evenings spent swooning over her posters on my wall and listening to The Go Go’s.
Anyway we weirdly connected when she tweeted about visiting the Orkney Isles and next thing I know she’s DMing me to tell me she loves my voice. Literally blew my tiny mind. I feel like a mad witch with special willing powers. I hope her and I can write a song together in 2019.
I recently read and enjoyed both Normal People and Conversations With Friends by Irish writer Sally Rooney.
I’ve been mainly listening to:
King Princess - 1950.
Michael Cassidy ( Glasgow singer songwriter) Benbecula .
Laura Viers - The Lookout
Neko Case - Hell on
The Saxaphones - Time is like a river
Fantoumata Diawara - Fenfo ( something to say)
Charles Watson - Now That I’m a river
Kacey Musgraves - Golden Hour
Taken by trees -Yellow to blue
Danny Coughlan:
The continual low point this year has been watching the chaos of Brexit and the election of Donald Trump expose the prejudices of those who’ve felt they’ve been given the permission or mandate to be racist, misogynistic and homophobic and feel that they can also celebrate ignorance as a virtue.
On the other hand the continual high points have been releasing our album and touring it in the US and Europe with our amazing band and seeing how wonderful the world looks and the people in it can be.
Crying my eyes out for twenty minutes watching the end of Bohemian Rhapsody before our show in The Hague was something I never expected but thoroughly enjoyed.
Reading wise as I’ve got the attention span of 5 year old its mostly looking at a lot of art books on artists like Maurice Cockrill, Ellsworth Kelly and David Hockney.
A few albums and songs old and new and gigs I enjoyed this year include
Michael Nau and The Mighty Thread
Sudan Archives Nont For Sale
King Princess - Sunburn
Phantastic Ferniture - Fuckin ‘n’ Rollin’
Childish Gambino - Summer Pack
Baxter Dury - Prince Of Tears
Charles Watson - Now That I’m A River
Beak - >>>
Little Ann - Deep Shadows
In 2019 i want to learn to play the piano and work out how to work my new drum machine.
