Welcome Ibibio Sound Machine!

Posted 9/20/16

We are thrilled to announce the signing of Ibibio Sound Machine. Fronted by London-born Nigerian singer Eno Williams, Ibibio Sound Machine is a clash of African and electronic elements inspired in equal measure by the golden era of West African funk, disco, and modern post-punk and electro.

The band’s self-titled debut album was released in 2014 to great acclaim. Evocative Nigerian poetic imagery set against an edgy Afro-Electro soundscape gives the band a unique space within the current wave of modern Afrocentric sounds sweeping across the globe.

The band will release their Merge debut next spring, saying, “We’re super-excited to sign with Merge. Such a great label, and we especially can’t wait to play in the US and Canada next year!”

Ibibio Sound Machine will perform November 5 at the Moth Club in London in celebration of Rough Trade's 40th anniversary. Check out the video for "Let's Dance (Yak Unek Inek)" from their s/t debut and keep up with the band at Twitter and Facebook

Ibibio Sound Machine is Eno Williams (vocals), Alfred Kari Bannerman (guitar), Anselmo Netto (percussion), Jose Joyette (drums), John McKenzie (bass), Tony Hayden (trombone, synth), Scott Baylis (trumpet, synth), and Max Grunhard (saxophone, synth).
