Andy and I first met when we were freshmen in college, introduced by a mutual friend who thought that Andy might want to have a go at the clunky rubber electronic drum set my roommate had purchased for our dorm room. Before I could finish giving the requisite “these rubber circles are nothing like a real drum set” warning, Andy was bringing it to life, playing with a nuance and elegance that caught me completely off guard. With a twinge of professional jealousy, I asked myself, “How the hell is he making that machine sound so natural and effortless?”

Attentive musicians and listeners alike have been asking similar questions for years now. Andy has rightfully earned a reputation as a generous collaborator and musical polymath, both as half of the beloved duo Wye Oak and on the road and in the studio with Lambchop, Helado Negro, and EL VY. As a multi-instrumentalist and producer, Andy has an uncanny ability to construct the precise musical architecture to frame and support unique and compelling voices. With his debut solo record as Joyero, Andy puts his own voice front and center.

—Matt LeMay, April 2019

Andy Stack has rightfully earned a reputation as a generous collaborator and musical polymath, both as half of the beloved duo Wye Oak and on the road and in the studio with Lambchop, Helado Negro, and EL VY.
